Building the Twister 25
|

|
First we need a strong ,clean, flat table to work on .it needs to be horizontal and all the glue and spots need to be removed . The Twister will be setup on this table and we need a reference than , no room for small errors by a glue dot on the table. we decided to messure the Twister from the transom .this is a good flat part were we can make good sharp messures . when we messure something in hight , we do that from the Deck .. the deck is always the same , front ore rear . the bottom is NOT ! the bottom of the tub has an aerodynamic shape in it .again , make sure your tools are from a distance of the boat .. its a wooden boat and easy to stick ore scratch in . that would be extra work to fix a cut ... Let's start the building ! We start with the deck of the Tub , we need lots of room in the engine room so we cut away lots of deck material , you can use a small saw ore sharp knife to cut the wood .cut it back until it meets the sides .you can sand the deck back untill you have a nice smooth top. this needs some time since its a needs a touch of perfection . when you have sand it back you also found the wooden devider between the motor and the fuel tank . we need to cut away some material o that devider , the pull start of the motor will fit in there and also some fuel lines .try to cut an oval out the devider and sand it in a nice shape .the first devider you will find close to the nose of the Tub . no need to do some work there . just on the 2nd devider . use the Cowl to get it fit , you need to work om some points to get the cowl fit , as soon as the cowl fit nice and easy your done with this part . Lets do the booms ! Put the Tub on the table . at the sides of the boat ,you will find small holes from a centerpoint , these dots are the points where we have to drill the holes for the booms . first use a very smal drill , 1/16 inch ore so and drill the 4 small holes in the tub , 2 left , 2 right . after drilling use a "saté pin" ore a regular wooden ore steel pin to check if you drilled the holes straight , check the left / right to make sure they are on a 90 degrees angle ! If you need to make a corection, now is the time to do it .. if you drilled correct you will see that the booms will run nice parralel with the 1th and 2nd tub devider . if all looks right , than drill the holes bigger with a drill from 16 mm.Now clean the holes and sand them a bit and check the line up again , use the Original booms to see if they are still 90 degrees with the tub . We need to built to small wooden "beds " for the booms that will lay inside the tub under the booms .. these beds will give the booms strenght and give us a easy way to mounts the sponsons. you can use a dremel with a sand drum to make this hollow "bed ". as soon as the "beds" will it in the tub and the booms will slide in them and fit perfect , you can glue them in .now draw a line in the middle of that bed and messure 3.5 cm to the left and right .. mark them and drill a 1/16 hole all trough the bottom of the boat . do this for the front and rear boom . slide the booms in place and make sure they are exactly in place . now turn arround the tub and you wil see 4 holes in your bottom of the tub . now drill the same 1/16 drill trough the holes and drill trough the booms . than use a bigger drill to make the holes a bit bigger . now use a special drill so the holes will hide the head of the bolts . now slide your bolts trough . turn arround the tub and you can use nuts to fasten the bolts . , we use teflon plasic cable clips that are half moon shape .these will slide over the bolts and than use a ring and nut to tighten the bolts . Now we going to fix the Carbon pins into the Sponsons , this is a delicate job to do .and it needs to be done with lots of attention . good thing is that we will find some Centerpoint spots at the inside of the sponsons .. these dots are the 4 holes we have to drill for the pins .use a 1/16 drill to make a 4 small holes . han use a 12 mm drill to make the holes bigger . be very carefull when drilling those bigger holes . you dont want to push trouhg the wood and drill with force into the foam IN in the sponsons . better take it easy and use the 12mm carbon small booms to "cut "into the foam and take that foam out . now fill the 4 carbon booms with round wood that will slide perfectly in the carbon booms .glue them together .than cut them at 14 cm lenght .When done , slide the pins in the holes you drilled in the sponsons and messure the lenght of the pins . make sure you have 8 cm pin left .now glue the pins in the holes with epoxy glue , use a lot of glue inside the holes o the sponson , you need to make sure that the pins wil get alot of stiffness inside the sponson .meanwhile take out the big long booms out of the tub . use a newspaper over the table and lay the sponsons with the ride pads facing up . slide the just glued pins in the bigger booms , just an inch is enough . do this with both sponsosnd so they can line up correctly , let them dry for 24 hours . than take the sponsons out of the booms .. chec if the pins are strong in the sponsons . now mount the booms in the tub again and slide in the sponsons , put the boat on the table and your rigger starts to get some shape ! You just finished the harderst part of building the rigger .!
